Three Rivers 5K Walk & 5K Run


The 4th annual Three Rivers 5K Walk and 5K Run will take place on the 5th of May, 2012 (Saturday). The 5K Walk will be a non-competitive and not timed fitness event. However, on the other hand, the 5K Run will be a competitive timed race.

Time

The 5K Walk and the 5K Run will begin at the same time at 10:00 am at Riverside Park. The walkers will start in the area behind the runners.

The Course

The course starts in the Riverside Park by the river and goes through downtown La Crosse on State Street to 6th Street, Then it turns right to King Street, where it turns left and passes through a few blocks of historic homes to 11th Street. From there, the runners will take a left turn to Main Street, where they will take a second left turn which will bring them back to downtown. After that, the competitors will take a right turn onto the 7th Street which will take them past City Hall and onto the paved bike path in the river marsh. The course will exit the road onto Front Street, which will lead the runners back to the park. Next, a counterclockwise loop through the park will bring the runners to the finish line by the large statue of an eagle.

5K Walk Entry Fees

These are not refundable. However, you can transfer them to another person. The fee schedule is:

  • $15 – before and on the 29th of February, 2012
  • $20 – between the 1st of March and the 30th of April, 2012
  • $25 – on race day

5K Run Entry Fees

These are not refundable. You are not allowed to transfer the entry and race number to somebody else. The schedule is:

  • $20 – before and on the 29th of Feb, 2012
  • $25 – between the 1st of March and the 30th of April, 2012
  • $30 - on race day

Awards

Every person who finishes one of these events will be granted a t-shirt. The award ceremony for the top runners in the 5K run will start at 11:00 am close to the finish. There will be trophies for the top 3 women and men based on gun time. There will also be age group awards for the top 3 female and male finishers:

Under 9; Between 10-12; Between 13-15; Between 16-18; Between 19-24; Between 25-29; Between 30-34; Between 35-39; Between 40-44; Between 45-49; Between 50-54; Between 55-59; Between 60-64; Between 65-69; 70 and over

Cell Phones, iPods and Headphones

Since this might affect your safety, we do not encourage any of the participants to use devices that lower their hearing. However, you can use one at your own risk, but we will ask you to keep the volume down so you can hear the traffic and instructions.

Wheelchairs

The 5K run does not offer a designated competitive wheelchair division. However, if you wish to participate and receive accurate chip time, you will start at 9:55 am. If you want to be part of the 5k walk, will not be given the early start time and will be asked to consider the other walkers along the course.

Joggers, Baby Strollers, Bikes and Skateboards

If you are part of the 5K walk, you are permitted to use joggers and strollers, but you will be expected to consider the other walkers. These are not allowed in the 5K run. Bikes, skateboards, rollerblades and similar devices are not permitted in neither one of the events. 

Cancellation

If you are not able to participate, you cannot apply the fee to the event next year. However, we will provide you with a t-shirt from the race if you send us a written request. You can pick it up at the Parks and Rec. Department at City Hall. If you cannot go to City Hall, we can send it to you for a fee of $10, as long as you give us your address, name, number and shirt size.
