For those who want the challenge of a long distance run, the Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013.

Time
The Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon will start at 8:00AM sharp on the historic Grandad Bluff overlook.

The Course
The half marathon starts with breathtaking views of the Coulee Region atop the Grandad Bluff overlook. The course descends almost 600 feet through the bluff forests on Bliss Road, winds through serene residential neighborhoods along the bluffs on La Crosse’s Southside, and then follows the banks of the Mississippi River to the finish in historic downtown! The Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon is a USATF-certified course (WI12046DM). Participants are allowed to walk the half marathon, however plese note there is a four hour time limit on the course.


Registration
Registration opens at 12:01AM on Thursday, November 1, 2012.

  • Registered participants can transfer their race registration to another event or another person. The Race Change Request Form or the Participant Transfer Request Form must be filled out and submitted to the Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon by April 27, 2013.  If you registered online, you may also make these changes through your account on Active.com.
  • Participants will be expected to pay a $10 administrative fee for switching events, in addition to the difference between entry fees. If switching to a lower entry fee event, no refund will be made and the participant is still expected to pay a $10 administrative fee.
  • The entry fee is non-refundable or non-transferable to next year’s event.
Pre-registration will close on April 28, 2013. Weekend-of registration will be available on Friday, May 3rd from 4:00PM-8:00PM at the Radisson Center, 200 Harborview Plaza, La Crosse, WI 54601. No race day registration is available for the half marathon.

Need some extra motivation to reach the finish line at the Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon? Are you trying to set a new Personal Record (PR) or finish the race under a certain time? The Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon has just the right opportunity for you! Run with one of our outstanding pacers and finish with a group of motivated and supportive participants. Pace groups will be on target to finish at the following times:
1:45, 2:00, 2:15, and 2:30.

Awards
All finishers will be awarded a high-quality finisher's t-shirt and a Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon commemorative medal. An award ceremony will begin at 11:00AM near the finish line in Riverside Park. Trophies will be awarded to the top three men and top three women (based on gun time). In addition, age-group awards will be presented to the first three male and female finishers in the following age groups based on chip time:

  • 65-69
  • 70 and over

Cell Phones, Headphones, and iPods
For reasons of safety, we strongly discourage runners from using any such devices during the race. If you feel that you must have one with you, please keep the volume low so that you can hear vehicular traffic, instructions from police or course marshals, and comments from nearby runners.

Wheelchairs
Due to he downhill nature of the course, no wheelchairs will be allowed on the course.

Cancellation
If you cannot participate, the entry fee is not refundable and non-transferable to next year's event. We will, however, allow the entry to be transferred to another participant. In the event that the entry is not used for the 2013 event, we will be happy to provide you a t-shirt from the race, written request is required. This shirt can be picked up after the race at the La Crosse City Hall in the Parks and Recreation Department. For a mailing and handling fee of $10, you can have a t-shirt mailed to your home. Send us the request via email or regular mail, including your name, street address, phone number, and t-shirt size.
