Marathon Relay


Most people want to be part of a Marathon because of the fun and excitement. However, most of them do not want to run the entire 26.2 miles either. Well, we have made that possible. All you have to do is choose several friends and form a relay team. These can have either two or four total members and can be female, male, or mixed. The legs of the relay vary in distance, but each of them is nearly 6.5 miles. It will be held on the 6th of May, 2012 as a part of our Festival Foods La Cross Fitness Festival.

Time

The relay will start with the half and full marathons close to Pettibone Park. Every event will start at exactly 7:00 am.

The Course

The relay will begin near the entrance to Pettibone Park with the Marathons. It will follow the Marathon’s course to the finish in Myrick Park close to the La Crosse University of Wisconsin. The first relay exchange will happen near Green Island Ice Arena, which is about 6.25 miles. The second one will take place close to the intersection of 33rd Street and Levy Lane, which is about 13.1m. The third exchange will happen near a parking lot on Townsend Street close to East Ave, which is approximately 19.2 miles. Each of the transition points will be noticeable by volunteers and a banner. The participants who run the 2nd, 3rd or 4th leg of the relay will be responsible for their transportation from and to the exchange points.

Registration

The registration will start at 12:01 am on the 1st of October, 2011 (Saturday).

The registration will end on the 30th of April, 2012. You will be able to register online only during the months that lead up to the event. You are not going to be able to register on race day. However you will be able to do so at the Packet Pickup.

Entry Fees

The entry fee is non-refundable for both the teams of 2 and 4 members. The entry fees have been scheduled like this:

  • $120 – before the 14th of January, 2012 (including that day)
  • $140 – between the 15th of January and the 29th of February, 2012 (including these days)
  • $160 – between the 1st of March and the 30th of April, 2012 (including these days)
  • $180 – at the Packet Pickup

Awards

Every team member will be granted a high-quality finisher’s t-shirt. The award ceremony will start at 12:00 pm close to the finish line in Myrick Park. The prize bags are going to be awarded to the team which takes the 1st place. This will be calculated based on the gun time for each of the finishing teams’ members in each of the divisions. You should note that there are no age categories in the competition. These are the divisions:

Male team – every member of the team has to be male. Female team – every member of the team must be female. Mixed team – if you are a 2-person team, one must be female and one male. If you are a 4-person team, the members of the team must not all be of the same gender.

Cell Phones, iPods and Headphones

For safety reasons, we discourage the members to use any devices during the race. If you want to bring one with you, please keep the volume down so you can hear the traffic, the comments from your fellow runners as well as the instructions from the course marshals and police officers.

Wheelchairs

Competitors with wheelchairs are not allowed in the marathon relay event.

Cancelation

If you cannot participate, you cannot transfer and cannot apply the entry fee in next year’s marathon. However, we will provide you with a t-shirt from the race, upon written request. You can pick it up at the City Hall in the Parks and Recreation Department. If you want us to mail your finisher’s shirt to your home, you have to pay a handling fee of $10. You can send us a request via regular mail or email, including your personal details. These include your names, address, phone number and t-shirt size.
